It’s the start of a new school year, time to plan for parent workshops that address the question: How do I help my child read better?

I reflected on a literacy course I had taken for diverse learners with disabilities. Developing lesson plans were part of the assigned coursework. Included in each assignment my professor added a challenge: Your lesson will be graded on “the fun factor.” I spent a great deal of time thinking about creating literacy lessons that were not only effective, but lessons that were also fun.

Every school deserves to have a dyslexia specialist who can support students and parents.
